Current Fitness Industry Trends

One of the most popular trends in the fitness world lately is wearable technology. Most of these come in the form of a watch, a ring or a bracelet. This technology can track your step count, heart rate, calories burned during a workout, blood pressure, sleep quality and more. Many professional sports organizations, gyms and exercise programs have implemented these types of technology into their programs.

I’m sure you know someone with an apple watch. This piece of technology is one of the most popular out there. I even have clients who will not start their workout until they set their apple watch. Apple has released 7 versions of this watch and the newest version can cost up to $1500. The newest version of the Apple Watch is crack, dust and water resistant and features a large display. On the Series 7 you can even measure your blood oxygen level and take an ECG on the go.

This technology can also save lives. There have been multiple instances where someone was out biking, they got hurt and the watch is able to contact emergency services and send help since it has your exact location.

Since the lockdown, home gyms have become very popular and companies like Peloton have became very popular. Peloton sells stationary bikes that are delivered right to your home. They feature live classes and a large backlog of workouts that you can choose from on the display. They are great way to get your cardiovascular training but doesn’t replace weight training in any way.

Online and virtual fitness training courses have grown during the pandemic. Online platforms like YouTube feature content creators that post in-home workouts, diet programs, yoga classes and so on. For trainers, this is a great way to reach massive amounts of people without actually seeing or speaking to them in person.

Overall, the newest trend doesn’t always means it’s the best. Sometimes it’s best to stick to the basics and keep it simple when it comes the your health and fitness. However, if tying your workout to technology works for you, I say go for it. What’s important is that you’re staying active, whether with an Apple Watch, or with pen and paper.
