Diet Tips During The Holidays

The holidays are a great time to relax and enjoy some quality time with your family and friends. It’s important to enjoy yourself and eat well but it’s also important to be mindful of how much you are eating; every calorie counts at the end of the day. Even if you overeat one day, don’t be too hard on yourself and maybe cut back the next day. Alcohol, carbohydrate and sugar intake tends to spike during this time, and you should absolutely enjoy in the festivities, but try to limit yourself to a couple drinks and/or sweets per day.

Here are a couple tips that might help you during these holidays get-togethers and parties. To start, most people will start off with a couple drinks before eating. A good idea is to refrain from drinking alcohol on an empty stomach because the alcohol won’t help you control your appetite, and your BAC will rise quicker on an empty stomach. Some of these parties will have a buffet style dinner, be choosy of what you are eating and stick to the foods you enjoy, you don’t need to try everything. If you want to try everything, just start with smaller portions instead of loading up your plate. After finishing your first plate, it might be a good idea to take a couple minutes to let your food digest and then go in for round 2 only if you are still hungry. Try to eat until you-re 70-80% full and not stuffed to the brim.

The last thing I want to mention is to remind yourself to drink water, it’s easy to get carried away and forget to drink water when you’re having fun conversations but it’s important to put down some water every drink or two and stay hydrated. Follow some of these tips and you will be in a great spot to start 2023 on the right foot.
